  • Business Report Writing (US 110023, NQF Level 4, 6 Credits)

    This course is intended for all persons working in administration in commercial and non-commercial organisations and who is responsible for presenting information in report format.

    The qualifying learner is capable of:

  • Relating the purpose, content, form, frequency and recipients of a range of reports to the information needs of a selected business
  • Identifying information sources and organisational procedures for obtaining and distributing information relevant to a selected business function.
  • Compiling reports related to a selected business function, ensuring content and format are appropriate to information requirements and that reporting deadlines are met
  • Liasing with relevant parties and verifying that reported information is in accordance with requirements and purpose of the report.A learner accredited with this course will also be able to plan and allocate the resources required to maximise efficiencies in an office environment whilst minimising resource costs in achieving stated objectives
    • How to produce writing for a range of purposes, audiences and contexts
    • How to identify and explain the values, attitudes and the assumptions in texts
    • How to evaluate the effects of content, language usage and writing style on other readers’ responses

    Using language appropriate to the socio-cultural, learning or workplace/technical environment can prove to give you the competitive advantage you require. This two day workshop will provide delegates with the skills to write texts with complex subject matter and a need for various levels of formality in language and construction. They will be able to select text type, subject matter and language to suit specific audiences and purposes. Using linguistic structures and features to influence readers, as well as edit own writing to meet the demands of a range of text-types are all critical writing skills that this workshop will focus on.

    How to interpret and Use Written Information (US 8969/ 119457, NQF Level 3, 5 Credits)

    Learners at this level will be able to understand the literal meaning of specific texts by using a wide range of reading and viewing strategies. Exploring and explaining how language structures and features may influence a reader/viewer, using strategies for  extracting implicit messages in texts and responding to selected texts in a manner appropriate to the context are all skills that the learner will be enriched with on this workshop.

    How to Interpret a Variety of Literary Texts (US 8972/ 119466, NQF Level 3, 5 Credits)

    In this workshop knowledge of formats, conventions, protocols and contexts is acquired through the activities used to attain this standard.  As a creative representation of life and experience, literature raises important questions about the human condition, now and in the past. Learners’ increasing ability to reflect on their experiences and to compare them with those of others is encouraged, enhancing their capacity to deal with a selection of texts that explore moral, psychological and philosophical issues. In this workshop learners will learn how to extract meaning from a variety of literary texts, identify and explain features that influence response to texts and to produce own texts in response to literary texts.

    How to Compose Business Writing (US12153, NQF Level 4, 5 Credits)

    This workshop enables learners to recognize an effectively use textual conventions and features specific to business texts. It is intended to promote clear, unambiguous communication in plain language and to improve the quality of written reports and other texts that are specific to a business environment, require a particular format and may include specified legislated requirements. Identifying the intended audience for the communication, identifying the purpose of the text as well as drafting and editing a technical text are also skills that will be focused on in this workshop.

    Business Writing for a Wide Range of Contexts (US8976/119459, NQF Level 4, 5 Credits)

    Editing writing/signing for fluency and unity, choosing language structures and features to suit communicative purposes as well as writing/signing effectively and creatively on a range of topics is just some of the skills the learner will be equipped with during this two day workshop.  Carefully scrutinising one’s own and others` writing/signing in terms of its impact on different audiences and contexts is an excellent communicative tool to have. Every person who needs to write expressively and with conviction and need to stimulate the interest of the recipient of his/her written communication is a viable candidate for this workshop.
